Lucette! The Musical

Tells the story of Lucette Diana Kensack, a lesser-known character from the famous Paul Bunyan tall tale. In a musical that folks of all ages can enjoy, Lucette uses Paul’s infatuation with her to teach him to be a better steward of the planet, reframing Paul’s lumberjack profession and imagining both a future and a past where humans can live in closer harmony with the Earth.

While I composed the music, the script and libretto were written by award-winning author Marybeth Lorbiecki, who based the story on her children’s book, “Paul Bunyan’s Sweetheart”. In association with director Dr. Kathy Welch, the musical premiered at the University of Wisconsin River Falls in the summer of 2023 with myself as music director, and is planned to be performed at the 2025 Edinburgh Festival fringe.
